With approximately 250,000 sweat glands in the feet which have the ability to produce more than a pint of sweat a day, it's vitally important, for comfort, to ensure that all this extra liquid has a way to escape. By incorporating new features and specialty fibres, Hilly Clothing Ltd's Mono Skin Supreme Sock should alleviate all possible problems. To guarantee the best performance, the main body of the sock uses 100% Dri-release Wool, allowing socks to dry quickly, keeping feet drier and more comfortable. Dri-release is a patented, intimate blend of synthetic (hydrophobic) and natural (hydrophilic) fibres from Optimer Performance Fibers, that accelerates the water release rate of wet fabric. Rather than spreading the moisture across the surface, Dri-release actually pushes it to the outside of the sock, releasing water and perspiration faster than any other performance fabric on the market. Dri-release Wool provides maximum comfort and performance with the added thermal properties of wool, without the weight or itch. The sock has a plethora of technical features including anatomical design with cushioning placed exactly where required on each foot, left and right. Blister resistance is provided by incorporating the anti- friction Profilen® fibre into the heel and toe area, where this problem occurs. The key new design feature is the position of the flat almost seamless toe construction. The usual upper seam, normally an area liable to cause blisters, has been eliminated and replaced by a flat seam construction under the toe area, placed to fit within the gap between the toes and the ball of the foot. Additional comfort features such as the arch grip section, 'Y' heel and Lycra® ensure optimum fit. All Hilly products are tested to the extreme, initially by Dr. Ron Hill, MBE who has run more than 145,000 miles to-date. Dr. Hill sets the rigorous criteria that needs to be met prior to approving a sock for production. The socks then go to external testers and are initially submitted to 250 miles of running, returned to Hilly for inspection, the socks are then submitted to a further 250 miles. Hilly uses 500 miles as the benchmark for its socks, which equates to the normal life of a pair of running shoes. However, testing is carried on up to 1000 miles."Hilly chose Dri-release Wool as it fits well with our company philosophy of 'Comfort through fibre technology'. As a company we test all our products to ensure only the best quality for our customers and we like the fact that Optimer also tests and certifies their technology in every product before being released into the market," Dr. Ron Hill, MBE, Technical Consultant, Hilly Clothing Ltd.Using Dri-release Wool ensures that the wearer will be kept comfortable and dry. Dri-release eliminates the wet, heavy feeling and skin chafing in hot humid conditions while also protecting against chills and hypothermia in cold, wet conditions. This is extremely important in socks, since the largest number of sweat glands in the human body are in the feet. The added benefit of FreshGuard®, an odour neutraliser built into the Dri-release yarn without harmful chemicals, virtually eliminates odour. FreshGuard is not a topical finish or antimicrobial. It's friendly to the environment and maintains the natural balance of the skin.
